There are few individual decisions a pet owner faces that can have significant, long term benefits to their own pet and others. The removal of the ovaries and uterus (spaying) or testicles (neutering) has been proven to increase a pet’s life span. Certain malignant cancers and life-threatening infections are eliminated. The risks for some other problems, both behavioral and medical, are significantly decreased. Overall, spayed and neutered animals make better pets. In addition, spaying and neutering helps combat the pet overpopulation crisis that results in millions of unwanted dogs and cats euthanized every year.
